We’re introducing a new way to be lazy here at Prospect House Farm.
Our newest cabin is centred around one thing.
Fire.
Here on the Yorkshire Coast, just outside Scarborough, we’ve spent years watching guests slow down in our hot tub cabins. As we began dreaming about what should come next, we didn’t start with a floor plan or a list of features.
We started with a feeling.
As a couple, we’ve always loved the connection that fire brings. From lighting the log burner at home on a winter’s evening to sitting around a fire pit beneath an open sky, there’s something about a real fire that naturally slows life down.
Being here on the Yorkshire Coast, surrounded by open countryside and beautiful dark skies, makes those moments even more special. On clear nights the stars are incredible and, if we’re lucky, we even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Those evenings have inspired so many of the ideas behind the Fire Cabin.
Bringing together fire and the night sky felt fairly straightforward.
But something was still missing.
We wanted another ritual.
Another way to truly switch off and leave the stresses of everyday life behind.
That’s when the idea of a wood-fired sauna arrived.
Unlike pressing a button, a wood-fired sauna asks you to slow down from the very beginning. You light the fire, wait for the warmth to build and enjoy the process just as much as the heat itself.
That became the philosophy behind the Fire Cabin.
Our Brand
Our brand has always been built around one simple idea.
Not laziness in the traditional sense, more like finding a rhythm that gently slows life down. A rhythm that lets you breathe a little deeper, drink your coffee while it’s still hot. Read another chapter because there’s nowhere else you need to be. Sit outside without reaching for your phone.
We wanted to create a place that encouraged that feeling naturally, rather than trying to entertain people every minute of the day.
Every Decision Has to Earn Its Place
As we sketched ideas, something became clear.
Every feature had to answer the same question.
Does this help people slow down? If the answer was no, it didn’t belong.
That’s why we’ve spent more time thinking about experiences than specifications.
How should the morning coffee be enjoyed? When will the evening fire feel most inviting? Where should the wood-fired sauna sit?
How can we create privacy without shutting out the landscape?
Where will guests naturally pause and simply look out across the fields?
They’re small questions on their own.
Together, they shape an entirely different kind of stay.
Designing Around Rituals
The Fire Cabin isn’t being built around a checklist of features.
It’s being built around the simple rituals that make a few days away feel restorative.
Lighting the wood-fired sauna, sitting beside a glowing fire as daylight fades.
Pouring a whisky, and watching the stars appear one by one.
Listening to little more than birdsong, crackling logs and the breeze through the trees.
Those moments don’t need to be scheduled, they simply need the right setting.
Nature Is Our Greatest Designer
Prospect House Farm sits just outside Scarborough, where the Yorkshire Coast meets the rolling countryside of North Yorkshire.
The landscape already does most of the work, open skies, mature trees, wildlife, and of course the peace and quiet.
Our job isn’t to compete with any of that, it’s to frame it, to position it, to create spaces that invite guests to notice what’s already there.
Sometimes the best design decision is knowing when not to add something.
The Journey Has Only Just Begun
The Fire Cabin is still taking shape.
Ideas are being tested, plans are being forged, and the details are being refined.
That’s exactly as it should be, we’re not rushing to finish something.
We’re taking the time to create somewhere we’d genuinely want to escape to ourselves.
We’ll continue sharing that journey as the build progresses because we believe the story behind a place is just as important as the place itself.
After all, every memorable stay begins long before you arrive.
Sometimes it begins with a simple feeling.
