At Prospect House Farm, our friendly campsite near Scarborough has hosted every kind of stay — from kids and parents in tents, to siblings in camper vans, to grandparents enjoying a touch of luxury in our glamping pods with hot tubs.
This summer, we watched a family do exactly that, and it reminded us why our site is such a great base for a family holiday on the North Yorkshire Coast.
Daytime Adventures: From Coast to Countryside
Each morning, the group set out along the Cleveland Way, following clifftop paths with sweeping views of the Yorkshire Coast.
One day it was Robin Hood’s Bay, with the children fossiling and rock pooling in the harbour shallows. Another day, a gentler inland stretch for those who preferred fewer hills.
Some mornings started early, with boots laced and picnic rucksacks ready for a full day on the Cleveland Way. Others began slower — the gentle clink of mugs on the pod’s decking, steam curling from fresh coffee as the sun lifted over the fields. However the day began, they always found a way to cross paths.
Evenings Together: Campfires and Pizza Nights
By late afternoon, everyone was back at the campsite. The smell of woodsmoke drifted from the campfire circle, where stories and marshmallows were shared in equal measure.
By Friday evening, the smell of wood-fired pizza drifted through the campsite. Kids chased each other between picnic benches, clutching slices almost too hot to hold, while the grown-ups settled into easy conversation, laughter rising with the smoke.

It didn’t matter where they laid their heads at night — during the day, they were one big holiday family.
